Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Richard credits his communication, networking, and organizing skills to growing up as the son of the Atlanta Public Schools’ Human Resources Director. After graduating from Morehouse College, Richard went on to travel the country as an organizer and activist, fostering connections with volunteers, community leaders, stakeholders, and elected officials. Richard’s twenty plus years of professional experience is steeped in the relationships he has built along the way and his unique ability to intuit, empathize, and understand the needs of clients, voters, consumers, peers, and colleagues alike. After many years on the road, working with campaigns, corporations, and civic organizations, his passion for the work has never faded. Richard has returned home to Atlanta, where he lives with his wife.
RICHARD MERRITT
Principal Campaigns & Advocacy
D. Richard Merritt, from San Diego, CA, is a seasoned political strategist and campaign manager with extensive experience in civic programming and campaign management. His career in advocacy began over a decade ago, focusing on environmental justice on both national and international levels. Richard has been recognized as a Green For All Fellow (2008) and Byron Fellow (2013) for his commitment to sustainability education and climate change mitigation. Richard has successfully employed his skills in digital, grassroots, and political organizing across various high-profile campaigns. His notable roles include Georgia State Director for Organizing for Action (2013), State Field Director for the Maryland Democratic Party (2018), and National Field Director for For Our Future and For Our Future Action Fund (2019-2020). Most recently, he managed Congresswoman Sara Jacobs' re-election campaign in California’s 51st district (2022) and served as Campaign Manager for Lashrecse Aird for State Assembly in VA (2021).
